Dale Wheeler Johnston Memorial Scholarship

The Southern Roots Garden Club of Mecklenburg County (SRGC) awarded a grant to the Master Gardeners of York County in honor of Dale Wheeler Johnston, founder of SRGC, who served as its first president. Mrs. Johnston passed away in 2019.

The goal in accepting this grant is to foster an interest in gardening among young adults, as well as to encourage environmental awareness in our community.

The grant will give up to 4 high school students full admission to the renowned Joy of Gardening Symposium, which is an annual event sponsored by the Master Gardeners of York County (MGYC). In 2023 the themed event Cultivate the Garden Within will be held on February 25 at the Gateway Center in Richburg, SC, from 8 am to 4 pm.
